loved to the very end.

Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

john 13

i was struck recently by this simple phrase in john’s gospel. he loved them to the end. not halfway. not conditionally. not until they failed him. to the very end.

and jesus didn’t just say it. he showed it. the son of god, the one through whom all things were made, stooped down and washed his disciples’ feet. it was the lowest task imaginable and yet jesus chose it. he knelt down. he washed their feet. he served them in love.

but what makes this moment truly shocking is this - he washed judas’ feet too.

jesus knew exactly what judas was about to do. he knew the betrayal was in motion. he knew judas would soon hand him over.

and still, jesus knelt before him. washed him. loved him. to the very end.

this wasn’t just an act of service. it was an invitation. an invitation for judas to step into the light. an invitation to confess what had been quietly growing in his heart (disillusionment, bitterness, greed, maybe even shame). an invitation to be cleansed. forgiven. restored.

he loved him to the very end.

this is so moving to me. because it means there is no place we can go where jesus’ love can’t reach us. no failure that places us beyond his invitation. no sin that disqualifies us from his grace. he loves us to the very end.

this was expecially meaningful to me as i consider my story. my struggles. my lies. my deception. my hidden shame. the quiet things i wish i could undo. the temptation to pretend.

but jesus’ love doesn’t stop at the surface. he kneels before us too. not to shame us, but to cleanse us. wash us.

and mercy upon mercy, when i confessed honestly, i experienced something i didn’t expect. relief. light. freedom. joy.

he loved me to the very end.

and he loves all of us to the very end. which means this same invitation is extended to you. you don’t have to keep hiding. you don’t have to carry it alone.

jesus is already kneeling before you, ready to forgive, ready to restore, ready to welcome you back into the light.

all that’s left is to respond. come into the light.

remember - he loves you to the very end.

until next time.
